Supporting Your Child's Journey to Adulthood
Your Questions, Answered
LASO Counseling prioritizes your child's privacy. All sessions are completely confidential between your child and their counselor. We never share information about your child's use of the service or the content of their sessions with parents, schools, or any third parties unless required by law or in case of imminent danger. Our privacy policies comply with HIPAA and other relevant regulations to ensure the utmost confidentiality.
To respect your child's privacy and foster their independence, we don't provide information about your child's use of the service to parents. You won't be able to see if or when your child logs in, books appointments, or attends sessions. This policy helps create a safe space for your child to seek help freely. If you're concerned about your child's well-being, we encourage you to have an open conversation with them directly.
LASO counselors are equipped to assist with a wide range of issues common to college students. These include stress and anxiety management, depression, relationship challenges, academic pressures, homesickness, identity issues, substance use concerns, eating disorders, grief, family conflicts, and career guidance. Our counselors can provide support for these and many other concerns your child might face during their college years, offering a comprehensive resource for their mental well-being.
All LASO counselors are licensed mental health professionals with advanced degrees in fields such as psychology, counseling, or social work. They are licensed to practice in their state, have passed rigorous background checks, and have specific training in working with college students and young adults. We regularly review our counselors' credentials and performance to maintain the highest standards. While you can view general information about our counselors' qualifications on our website, your child will choose their specific counselor to maintain their autonomy in the process.
While LASO Counseling provides valuable mental health support, we recognize that some situations may require more intensive care. Our counselors are trained to recognize when a client might need a higher level of care and can discuss this with your child directly. They can provide referrals to local in-person therapists, psychiatrists, or other appropriate resources if needed. In emergency situations, counselors can guide your child to immediate help, including local emergency services. However, LASO Counseling for Students is not a replacement for emergency services, and we always advise calling 911 or going to the nearest emergency room in case of a mental health crisis.
